Court Orders PDP to Proceed with National Convention in Ibadan
By Afolabi Nelson
An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to go ahead with its national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025. The ruling was delivered by Justice Ladiran Akintola after hearing an ex parte application filed by PDP chieftain, Folahan Malomo Adelabi.
Adelabi, who is the claimant in suit number I/1336/2025, asked the court to prevent any attempt to disrupt or stop the convention. He also sought an order compelling the party’s leadership to strictly follow its approved guidelines and timetable for the event.
The defendants in the case include the PDP, Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (as head of the National Convention Organising Committee), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In its ruling, the court directed the PDP to conduct the convention as planned in Ibadan and ordered INEC to attend and monitor the exercise in line with the Electoral Act.
