Obaseki Denies Leaving N600bn Debt for Edo State
By Afolabi Nelson
Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has dismissed claims that he left a ₦600 billion debt for the state.
He was responding to allegations made by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, who also questioned Obaseki’s legacy projects, including the Radisson Hotel and the Museum of West African Arts (MOWAA).
Speaking through his media aide, Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki said the Governor Monday Okpebholo administration was spreading false information that tarnished the state’s image. He advised the government to verify with the Debt Management Office (DMO), noting that no state could take loans without DMO’s approval.
Obaseki described Afegbua’s claims as untrue and said such statements showed a lack of understanding of how government operates.
