Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on political leaders to serve the nation with passion and dedication, noting that Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri exemplifies these values. Speaking at the public presentation of a book titled Leadership Chronicles of Governor Douye Diri in Lagos, Shettima represented by Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat said Diri’s leadership reflects genuine service and commitment to good governance.
The event, organised by UNILAG Consult Limited, also featured a public lecture and the launch of a professorial chair on leadership and good governance. The book, written by Prof. Hope Eghagha and veteran journalist Sola Ojewusi, highlights Diri’s journey in public service, his achievements in governance, and his handling of crises and development challenges in Bayelsa State.
In his keynote address, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang said true leaders are ordinary people who share the dreams and struggles of their people. He praised Diri’s passion and strong advocacy for justice, fairness, and the development of the Niger Delta region.
Governor Diri expressed gratitude to the authors and UNILAG for the honour, saying it inspired him to remain focused on Bayelsa’s progress. He reaffirmed that the development and prosperity of the state remain his top priorities and described his recent defection from the PDP to the APC as a strategic decision made in the best interest of Bayelsa and its people.
