PDP State Chairmen Back Damagum, Reject Factional Leader
By Afolabi Nelson
State chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reaffirmed their loyalty to the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, dismissing factional leader Abdulrahaman Mohammed as an impostor.
Under the Forum of PDP State Chairmen, they pledged not to abandon Damagum and urged delegates to prepare for the party’s National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16.
The convention remains in dispute, with conflicting court orders Justice James Omotosho of the Abuja Federal High Court halting it, while Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Ibadan High Court granted permission for preparations to continue. The case will be heard on Monday.
In a separate case, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, reserved ruling until Tuesday on former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido’s request to stop the convention after he was allegedly denied a nomination form for the chairmanship race.
In a communiqué signed by Forum Chairman Tony Aziegbemi (Edo) and Secretary Edward Masha, the chairmen restated their support for Damagum and the National Working Committee (NWC), vowing to uphold party unity and strengthen internal democracy.
They also praised Justice Akintola’s ruling, saying it cleared the way for the planned convention, and urged delegates to elect credible and loyal leaders. The Forum further commended the leadership of Damagum, the PDP Governors’ Forum led by Senator Bala Mohammed, and the Board of Trustees chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara.
