AGF Clarifies Presidential Clemency Process

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has clarified that the recently announced presidential prerogative of mercy has not yet been concluded.

In a statement from his office yesterday in Abuja, Fagbemi said no inmate approved for clemency under the current exercise has been released.

He explained that the process is still at its final administrative stage, involving a thorough review of all names and recommendations.

According to him, this review ensures full compliance with legal and procedural requirements before any official release order is issued.
