Buni Approves ₦7.9bn for Payment of Retirees’ Gratuities

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved ₦7.9 billion for the payment of five years’ outstanding gratuities to state and local government retirees.

According to a statement by Mamman Mohammed, the Governor’s spokesperson, ₦5.8 billion will go to state retirees, while ₦2.1 billion will be used to pay local government retirees for the period between January 2020 and May 2025.

Governor Buni also directed that gratuity payments be included in the state’s monthly financial schedule to ensure regular disbursement alongside pensions, preventing future backlogs.

The move aims to clear old debts, provide financial relief, and restore dignity to retirees across the state.
