Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, made history on Sunday by defeating Mali 78–64 to win their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title in Abidjan.
Despite a slow start, Nigeria leveled the score by halftime and dominated the second half with standout performances from Amy Okonkwo, Ezinne Kalu, Promise Amukamara, and Victoria Macaulay.
The win extends their unbeaten run to 29 games since 2015. Amy Okonkwo was named MVP and selected in the tournament’s Top Five, alongside players from South Sudan, Mali, Senegal, and Uganda.
