By Afolabi Nelson

The Olojudo of Ido Ayegunle in Osun State, Oba Timileyin Ajayi, has announced the arrest of four suspects linked to the killing of villagers in the community, describing the development as a major step toward justice.

In a statement on Monday, the monarch said the suspects were arrested in connection with violent attacks that occurred on June 15, 2025, which led to multiple deaths in the community.

Ajayi disclosed that an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo ordered the suspects to be remanded at the Ilesha Correctional Centre for 30 days over alleged murder.

He said the order, granted by Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba, followed a request by the police, who informed the court that investigations were still ongoing and legal advice was being awaited from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

“I want the world to know that we have arrested the people behind the killing,” the monarch said, adding that other suspects connected to the attacks were still at large.

He described Ido Ayegunle as a community deeply affected by the loss of innocent lives, including fathers and youths, noting that the incident had brought fear and grief to residents.

The traditional ruler stressed that the community was not seeking revenge but justice, which he defined as a thorough investigation, accountability for those responsible and assurances of safety for residents.

Ajayi called on security agencies, government authorities and leaders within and outside Nigeria to intervene and ensure lasting peace, insisting that rural communities also deserved adequate protection.

He assured residents that peace would return to Ido Ayegunle and vowed to continue pressing for justice until normalcy was fully restored.
