Four people lost their lives and at least 15 others were injured during a violent cult related attack at a burial in Ogidi community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to reports and videos circulating on social media, the incident happened on Thursday at Ezi Village, Ogidi, when suspected cultists invaded the ceremony and started shooting randomly. Some of the injured were seen receiving treatment at a hospital.
Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the attack was linked to a clash between rival cult groups. He noted that police officers quickly responded, restored calm, and moved the victims to hospitals. Sixteen used cartridges were recovered at the scene.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the attack and assured residents that the police are determined to tackle cult violence and other crimes. He urged the public to stay calm, be vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
