Manchester United Finalise £65m Deal for Brentford Star Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brentford to sign Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth £65 million, potentially rising to £70 million with add-ons.

The 25-year-old Cameroon international is expected to undergo a medical ahead of United’s pre-season tour of the United States, which kicks off on Tuesday. Mbeumo will become the Red Devils’ third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha and Spanish left-back Diego Leon.

United initially submitted a £55 million bid in early June, followed by an improved £62.5 million offer later that month. Both were rejected before Brentford accepted the latest proposal of £65 million plus £5 million in performance related bonuses.

Mbeumo joined Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019 and has since developed into a key player for the Bees. His move to Old Trafford marks the most lucrative sale in Brentford’s history.

Mbeumo delivered his best-ever Premier League campaign last season, setting personal records across nearly every key attacking metric including goals, assists, chances created, and touches in the opposition box.

With a shot conversion rate of 23.53%, Mbeumo ranked among the league’s most clinical finishers trailing only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak in efficiency in front of goal.

Mbeumo’s impact off the ball is just as impressive he regained possession 32 times in the opposition third, the third-highest tally in the Premier League.

But his most distinctive asset lies in his explosiveness with the ball at his feet. He led the league with nine goal-ending carries of over five metres in the 2024–25 season, making him the Premier League’s standout threat in transition.

He’s impressed at Brentford, but stepping into the spotlight at Manchester United is a whole different challenge. Unlike Brentford, where the pressure is relatively low, United demands immediate impact. Expectations are sky-high, and every performance is under scrutiny.

Mbeumo brings plenty to the table he’s experienced, clinical in front of goal, and tactically flexible. He can operate as a central striker or out wide, particularly effective when cutting in from the right onto his stronger left foot.

Still, the big question is whether he can sustain his impressive form. He’s just come off a standout season statistically, but one great campaign doesn’t guarantee consistency something United have sorely lacked from wide players like Alejandro Garnacho and Antony.

Ruben Amorim appears to be targeting more mature, dependable attackers who can slot into his demanding system. Mbeumo fits that profile he’s proven in the Premier League, tactically intelligent, and offers versatility along with a tireless work ethic.

Amorim’s back three system hinges on coordinated pressing and high intensity transitions. For that to work, every player has to contribute both on and off the ball. That’s likely why Mbeumo is the man they’ve chosen he’s trusted to deliver energy, tactical discipline, and crucially, goals.
