NAHCON Chair Prof Usman Resigns for Personal Reasons
By Afolabi Nelson
Professor Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Usman, Chairman and CEO of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), has resigned from office, effective February 9, 2026.
In a statement, he said the decision followed prayerful reflection and consultation with his family and stressed that it was entirely for personal reasons.
Prof Usman formally communicated his resignation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in line with Section 3(6) of the NAHCON Establishment Act, 2006.
He emphasized that his decision was made in good conscience and out of respect for the responsibilities of public service, and was not due to dissatisfaction with NAHCON or the Federal Government.
He expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust and opportunity to serve the nation and the Muslim ummah.
He also praised Vice President Kashim Shettima, NAHCON board members, management, staff, and key stakeholders, including state pilgrims’ welfare agencies, tour operators, and Saudi authorities, for their collaboration during his tenure.
As he steps down, Prof Usman prayed for the continued success of NAHCON and its future leadership, and for Nigerian pilgrims to be granted a Hajj Mabrur.
He described his time in office as an honour he would forever cherish.
