Nigeria Leads West Africa in Climate Action with NDC 3.0 Submission

Nigeria has become the first West African country to submit its Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), ahead of the COP30 summit in Belém, Brazil.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will present Nigeria’s green transition roadmap, outlining plans to turn climate pledges into real projects that attract funding and technology.
Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Mrs. Tenioye Majekodunmi, said Nigeria’s early submission shows strong climate commitment and readiness for global partnerships.
She noted that the government’s approval of the National Carbon Market Framework and the launch of the National Climate Change Fund would boost investor confidence and encourage genuine carbon investments that benefit communities.
Majekodunmi added that COP30 offers Nigeria a chance to secure sustainable financing and deepen cooperation among tropical forest regions, including the Amazon, Congo, and Guinea forests.
