The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State chapter, has accused three top Federal Government officials of illegally diverting local government funds into accounts allegedly opened by sacked APC chairmen and councillors.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, the union alleged that the Minister of Finance, the Accountant General of the Federation, and the Attorney General of the Federation released allocations meant for the state’s 30 councils from March to September 2025 into accounts domiciled with United Bank for Africa Plc. The union described the move as “scary, bizarre and unprecedented.”
NULGE argued that both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal had already removed the APC officials from office, while new chairmen and councillors had been duly elected and sworn in. It faulted the Attorney General for backing the sacked politicians, warning that the action undermines the judiciary.
“It is worrisome that Federal Government officers do not respect the authority of the courts. A country that disregards its judiciary is digging its own grave,” the union said, insisting that career officers remain the lawful custodians of local government assets.
The union urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to continue sustaining peace in Osun, while appealing to residents to resist attempts to destabilize the state. It warned that those behind the crisis were only seeking to create anarchy and pave the way for a declaration of emergency rule.
