Tension as PDP Factional Leader Takes Over Party Secretariat

By Afolabi Nelson

In a tense development, Abdulrahman Mohammed, Acting Chairman of the Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stormed the party’s National Secretariat on Monday to assume leadership.

Mohammed’s arrival, amid heavy security, was met by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. Trouble began when some staff members, allegedly supported by outsiders, tried to force Anyanwu out of his office. Policemen at the scene fired tear gas and dispersed the crowd to restore order.

Following the chaos, security operatives cleared the premises of all staff, journalists, and visitors before locking the gates. The crisis deepened after the Damagun-led NWC suspended Anyanwu, who in turn announced the suspension of Damagun and others.

Speaking to journalists after being shown around the secretariat by Anyanwu, Mohammed said he had assumed office to reunite the PDP and prepare it for victory in the 2027 elections. He promised to work toward peace and unity within the party.
