Residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have fled their homes following a deadly terrorist attack that reportedly claimed over 176 lives.
The attack occurred between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, forcing residents to escape in fear, leaving behind their belongings. Many sought refuge in neighbouring Niger State and other nearby communities.
A viral video seen on Saturday showed displaced residents gathered by the roadside in Wawa town, Niger State, with vehicles believed to have transported them from Kwara parked nearby. Women and children were seen resting under a temporary shelter, while others sat on the ground looking exhausted.
Confirming the incident, the Special Assistant to the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, ZulQharnain Musa, said Woro community had been completely deserted.
“The whole community has been deserted. Residents have fled to Niger State, Kaiama town, and Baruten,” he said.
Musa added that security forces had been deployed to the area, noting that an army battalion was stationed in the community on the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
However, he said many residents were still unwilling to return due to fear of further attacks and concerns over their safety.
