Tinubu to Announce New Ambassadors as Security Vetting Nears Completion
By Afolabi Nelson
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to announce a new list of ambassadors in the coming days, with indications that the official release may come as early as next week. Reliable sources within the Presidency confirmed that the selection process, which has been ongoing for several weeks, has reached its final stage following the President’s directive to fast-track diplomatic appointments.
According to reports, the nation’s security agencies have been instructed to conclude all necessary background checks and vetting procedures immediately to pave the way for the official unveiling. The directive is said to reflect the President’s urgency to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign missions and reinvigorate the country’s diplomatic presence globally.
The new ambassadors are expected to represent Nigeria in key countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas, focusing on trade, investment, and bilateral cooperation. Insiders say the appointments will strike a balance between seasoned diplomats and political nominees, in line with Tinubu’s drive for both competence and political inclusion.
The forthcoming announcement follows the recent recall of several Nigerian ambassadors earlier in the year, signaling the administration’s effort to realign its foreign policy objectives. Once approved, the nominees will undergo screening and confirmation by the Senate before resuming duties at their designated missions.
