Tinubu Warns Christian Pilgrims Against Absconding

By Afolabi Nelson

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerian Christian pilgrims traveling to Israel and Jordan not to abscond during their holy journey, stressing the need for patriotism and group solidarity.

He gave the charge on Wednesday at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, during the flag-off of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission’s (NCPC) 2025 Delayed Easter Pilgrimage Exercise.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, the President described pilgrimage as “a spiritual journey of faith” and an opportunity for moral renewal and spiritual rebirth.

According to a statement by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Tinubu warned that absconding during pilgrimage strips individuals of their dignity abroad.

“It is important to admonish intending Christian pilgrims to demonstrate patriotism as they embark on this spiritual journey. Do not entertain the thought of absconding, because there is no country like Nigeria,” the statement quoted him as saying.

He further noted: “Here at home, you enjoy freedom and recognition in your own way. But once you stay back illegally abroad, you forfeit your respect and dignity.”
