Troops Overrun Terrorists’ Camp, Seize Ammunition in Kogi Forest

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Operation IGBO IDANU, have captured a suspected terrorists’ camp in a forest in Kogi State, recovering large quantities of ammunition and grenades.

A military source said the operation was carried out on February 10 by a combined combat team that advanced from a harbour location at Batijjo’s Camp toward another hideout linked to terror kingpins operating in the area.

The troops reportedly navigated thick forest, felled trees and other natural obstacles, cutting through blockages with chain saws while maintaining formation. They also crossed three rivers during the advance.

Although the final river near an enclave linked to Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu was impassable due to marshy terrain, the soldiers dismounted and trekked about 1.5 kilometres to reach the target, led by Brigade Commander Brig Gen KU Sidi.

On arrival, the camp was found deserted, suggesting the suspects fled before the troops approached.

A search of the site led to the recovery of eight boxes of 7.62 x 54mm linked ammunition, each containing 250 rounds, and a box of high velocity grenades.

The camp was later destroyed to prevent its future use as a logistics base before the troops withdrew to their harbour position.

The source added that morale among the soldiers remains high as clearance operations continue in the area.
